Standard Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ) Quality Assurance director Sebastian Zuze commended ZPC for its efforts to ensure that it continued to power Zimbabwe and its economy, despite the challenges that the organisation was facing.

“Ladies and gentlemen, it is crucial to note that the role played by ZPC Hwange in the Zimbabwean economy talks directly to the country’s competitiveness and level of comfort of our citizens,” Zuze said.

The ISO 9001 Quality Management System run by SAZ is accredited by the South African National Accreditation System (SANAS). Hwange Power Station has an installed capacity of 920 megawatts (MW) with four of its 120MW units having been built between 1983 and 1986.  Two 220MW units were commissioned in 1986 and 1987.

The station operates as a base load and meets approximately 50% of the electricity needs of the country.  ZPC is currently in the 2nd phase of implementing the Hwange 7 and 8 expansion project, which is expected to kick start sometime next year, thus, adding  an extra 600MW onto the power grid.
