Zodwa Tshuma was not asked to plead to the charge when she appeared before magistrate Victor Mpofu during a court circuit at Mbembesi last Wednesday.

The court remanded her on free bail to November 7 for trial.

Prosecutor Memory Ndlovu told the court that sometime in September this year, Tshuma struck her five-year-old nephew on the feet with a hammer and a log before pulling his tongue with a pair of pliers.

It is the State case that she accused the boy of bedwetting.

The matter came to light when other close family members reported her to police.

A medical report confirming the degree of the boy’s injuries is expected to be presented in court.
