Other exhibitors will come from the United States, Asia and the Pacific Islands.

The number of foreign exhibitors this year increased from 24 last year.

Delegates to the country’s premier tourism exposition have started arriving for the event that will be held from October 18 to 21 in Harare.

Zimbabwe Tourism Authority spokesperson Sugar Chagonda yesterday stated that courtesy of the expo, tourist arrivals in Zimbabwe had increased, with Chinese visitors rising from 12 000 in 2010 to 32 000 in 2011.

Exhibitor numbers have also risen by 61% from last year’s fair. Twenty Chinese buyers and media personnel arrived on Tuesday night for the event that will be held under the theme “Celebrating Africa’s Tourism Diversity”. The travel expo will be open to the public from October 20 to 22.

Chagonda said: “Foreign investors are taking advantage of the opportunities they get from Sanganai. Already there are Chinese investors who are currently building hotels in Zimbabwe.”

Sanganai/Hlanganani is an annual travel and tourism fair aimed at showcasing a variety of Africa’s best tourism products.

This year’s fair will see Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara and African Sun’s chief executive officer Shingi Munyeza moderating at the Tourism Business Exchange Forum on October 18 during the official opening of the event.

There will be a Sanganai Awards Cocktail followed by a Town Tourism Launch and Street Procession in Highfileds, Harare, on October 20.

A Tourism night featuring Zimbabwean musicians, Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi, Alick Macheso, Sulumani Chimbetu, Charles Charamba and wife, Winky D and Mbira Dzenharira will be held at Gwanzura Stadium on October 20.
