IT will be a clash of the titans at Beitbridge’s ceremonial home of football, Dulibadzimu Stadium, when rivals Strikers FC and Tripple B face off in a Beitbridge derby tomorrow. A lot is at stake for both teams and winning this match will have a lot of implications on both teams’ title aspirations.

Tripple B are on top of the log, leading third-placed Strikers with 11 points. A win for Strikers will reduce Tripple B’s lead to eight points. What will further spur Strikers to be hungrier for a win is that they have played two games less than Tripple B, which if they win they will further cut Tripple B’s lead to two points and enhance their chances of upstaging their rivals to the sole ticket.

Pride is also at stake in this encounter and whoever wins the match will have the bragging rights in Beitbridge. Tripple B coach Friday Phiri said: “It’s a big game. Derbies are always difficult to deal with, but we will do our bestfor a positive result. We are coming from two successive draws and we hope to use this game to recover. I believe we are still on course to claim the championship. We just need to maintain focus.”

Never Malunga, Strikers FC coach, fancied his team’s chances of dislodging Tripple B at the top of the log and believed a win tomorrow would enhance their promotion chances.

“We are not worried much about the match. It’s just as good as any other match we have played so far and we are taking it as such. We have 50/50 chances of gaining promotion and that is our main focus. If we win this match it will do our campaign great good,” he said.
