Edmore Garaweni (age not given) pleaded guilty to physical abuse when he appeared before Gwanda magistrate Shillah Nazombe.

The magistrate convicted and sentenced him to 40 days in jail with an option of a  $100 fine. Public  prosecutor Tererai Mahohoma told the court that on June 24 this year at 7pm, Garaweni and his wife (not named)  alighted from a commuter omnibus at Sengezane  bus stop coming from Gwanda town.

His wife took most of the groceries they were carrying to her cottage. When she returned to take the remaining items, Garaweni refused to give her and a quarrel ensued between the two.

Garaweni then punched her several times and she sustained a swollen face and a bleeding nose.

A report  was made to the police leading  to Garaweni’s arrest.
