The value of the gold ore could not be immediately ascertained and police have since launched a manhunt for the robbers.

Mashonaland West acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ian Kohwera confirmed the robbery.

He said on Wednesday last week at around 2am, eight people raided the mill located at Chakari. The gang detonated explosives sending employees scampering for safety.

“The robbers broke all light sources, plunging the mill into darkness before loading 1 000kg gold ore into sacks and fleeing the scene,” Kohwera said.
