ZIMBABWE has become a hub of diverse sound with the rise of new musicians. Among the new finds of the local music scene is gospel musician Malcohm Timm, popularly known as Christyun.

Report by Tinashe Sibanda

Christyun recently released his debut album titled Microphone which he says is a call to Christians to take charge of their spheres of influence around the world.

“For a decade I’ve been working with artists, including Bonnie Deuschle and the Celebration Choir, Kudzai Sevenzo and Jonah Sithole, but I had not produced anything for myself,” said Christyun.

His album contains some exciting modern gospel sounds, especially songs such as Name is Love, Firelight and Go, which are his personal testimonies.

Christyun said his aim was to promote the album and get the message of God’s love to as many people as possible and also to have dancehall and reggae music lovers praise the Lord through the genres.

“For those that love my music, there is definitely a lot to look forward to, especially live performances. I will also be releasing another album titled Christyun 2 early next year,” he said.

Christyun added that there were just too many people to salute for keeping the fire burning over the years in the music industry. He said the gospel music industry was in need of more artists who properly understood the gospel’s intent and to utilise every genre for fans to have more stuff to dance to.

“I discovered my passion for writing in high school as I excelled in poetry, then I began putting music to the poetry and I liked doing that more and I’ve been writing ever since,” he said.
