Muparutsa, affectionately known in journalistic circles as Taka, died after losing a battle with renal carcinoma, a form of cancer he was diagnosed with five months ago.

His first-born daughter, Tiffany Paidamoyo Muparutsa (19), said she was devastated by her father’s death and was struggling to come to terms with it.

“He always told me he would fight the disease to the end and I know he is at a better place in heaven because I could see he was in great pain,” said Tiffany.

“His last words on his deathbed were that he was proud of me, before I blew him a kiss.  He did not want to show me that he was dying and that it was probably the last time he would see me.”

Taka’s aunt Eunice Mary Muparutsa, a headman in Mutasa District, said his death was a blow to the family as his father, renowned actor Walter Muparutsa, passed away only six months ago.

“Taka was now the head of the family since he was the eldest son.  He was outgoing and his death will be a loss not only to his family, but friends and workmates.  He suffered a lot during his illness, but I am happy he was now a converted Christian and dedicated member of the Zion Christian Church,” she said.

Conway Tutani, NewsDay Assistant Editor, said:  “Taka was a hardworking, conscientious, focused and innovative worker with an analytical, incisive and critical mind – attributes which make a good sub editor.  He was also pleasant to work with.  Taka will be sorely missed on the sub editors’ desk for both his professional and personal qualities.”

NewsDay  News Editor John Nyashanu said:  “In Taka, we have lost a real gentleman, a brother, and a hardworking colleague.  I was by his side when we buried his father this very year.  Indeed, no one can escape the arrow of God.  Go well, my brother.”

Muparutsa is survived by his wife Tsitsi and six children. Mourners are gathered at 26 Pollet Avenue, Belvedere.
