THE second ordinary session of the African Ministerial Conference on Meteorology (Amcomet) kicked off in Victoria Falls yesterday

THE second ordinary session of the African Ministerial Conference on Meteorology (Amcomet) kicked off in Victoria Falls yesterday amid calls for the meteorological departments to be visible for them to get maximum government support.

Secretary for Transport Munesu Munodawafa expressed Zimbabwe’s gratitude to the World Meteorological Organisation Secretariat and the African Union Commission for affording the country an opportunity to host the second Amcomet meeting.

“Equally to all delegates I say, we are humbled by your response and presence here despite the negative publicity Zimbabwe has suffered over the last decade,” he said.

“Yes, I am aware that some amongst us are concerned that we do not appear to be taken seriously in terms of budget allocations by our respective governments, and yet there is no socio-economic sector that is now not sensitive to weather and climate patterns and behaviour.”
