Macheso manager threatens to quit

SUNGURA musician Alick Macheso’s manager William Tsandukwa Tuesday threatened to leave his job if Macheso takes back controversial dancer Peter Kagomera.

SUNGURA musician Alick Macheso’s manager William Tsandukwa yesterday threatened to leave his job if the musician takes back controversial dancer Peter Kagomera. Report by Tawanda Marwizi

Tsandukwa told NewsDay that he had no power to stop Macheso from taking back Kagomera, but revealed he would quit if the dancer bounced back.

Last weekend Macheso announced on stage that he intended to bring back Kagomera.

“He is the owner of the band. I can’t do anything to prove to him that Kagomera is a problem, but if he insists (on taking back the dancer) then I will leave the job for other things,” said Tsandukwa. A visibly angry Tsandukwa described Peter as a poisonous tree in the bush.

“He is like a poisonous tree in the bush that would be harmful to children if brought home. God knows because he gave us useful and poisonous trees so that we choose which tree to use for domestic purposes and which ones to leave in the bush,” said Tsandukwa.

He said they had tried to be tough with the young man, but he failed to comply and there was no need to have him readmitted into the band. However, Macheso maintained his ground saying he had a role to play in the society and was obliged to help Kagomera.

“He (Kagomera) is a problem, but we have to know that we have a role to play in the society. We cannot let the young man go back to the streets,” said Macheso.

Sources in the band said Macheso had no option but to take Kagomera back because his other dancer Selemani Mupochi, populary known as Majuice, had failed to fill in the gap left by Francis “Slomo” Dhaka who crossed over to Sulumani Chimbetu early this year.
