The competition showcased works by African filmmakers reflecting the continent’s stories, hopes and dreams.

Produced and directed by award-winning Zimbabwe Youth Festival Artistic director Tenford Chitanana, the 16-minute documentary focuses on the daily struggles of young Zimbabweans caught up in a brutal socio-economic and political environment.

“The award has really come as a blessing. I have since received several invitations to screen the film in many parts of the world and as BornFree, we feel very honoured,” Chitanana said.

The festival featured over 30 films including narrative and animations from 16 African countries.
