JOHANNESBURG — KickOff.com can reveal that Ajax Cape Town are considering bringing in Ruud Krol, while Johan Neeskens also appears to be in the picture.

Ajax are currently on the lookout for a coach to replace Maarten Stekelenburg, who was fired recently. The “Urban Warriors” have appointed Jan Pruijn as caretaker.

Even though Ajax boss George Comitis has refused to reveal the names of coaches who have applied for the vacant post at Ikamva, a reliable source within the team reveals to KickOff.com that the former Orlando Pirates coach and former Platinum Stars coach Owen da Gama have forwarded their CVs to the club.

“Krol is currently the hot favourite to take over the coaching position at Ajax even though there are a number of top coaches who have applied for the job,” the source reveals. “There are a few locals who have applied including Da Gama.”

Comitis has not denied the possibility of hiring a local coach.

However, KickOff.com has also received word that Ajax have approached under-fire Sundowns coach Neeskens and are giving him until the end of the week to respond. Ajax have expressed a preference for a Dutch coach, and Neeskens’ position at Chloorkop appears tenuous. Ajax management reportedly expected him to leave Sundowns after their 1-0 loss to Platinum Stars at the weekend, but that did not happen, so Ajax are now waiting on him.

However, Krol looks like the likelier candidate.
