The supermarket chain is expected to open next week. The facility is made up of a supermarket, bakery, coffee shop and butchery.

When NewsDay visited the shopping centre yesterday, at least 40 people were queuing outside in search of work.

In an interview yesterday, the franchise’s director Paul Kruger said 110 people would be employed.

“More than 600 people have approached the centre in the last two weeks looking for jobs,” he said. A renowned butcher from South Africa, Analidio Mendenca, was already in the country and had begun training some of the newly employed staff.

The modern shopping outlet that has taken over a year to construct is set to change the face of Bulawayo through its spacious foodcourt, which includes a bar overlooking a water fountain, a full restaurant and a health bar.
