Thesly Mufunda, the league’s secretary, confirmed at the weekend that the tennis league, which attracts players from the Southern Region, will start on the first Saturday of next month and urged all those wishing to participate to register with the tennis academy before November 1.

“This year’s GC Tennis Centre Singles League starts on November 3 up to December 2. All matches will be played on Saturdays and Sundays up to the end of the competition and the registration deadline for those who wish to take part is October 31,” Mufunda said.

Another official Adam Joelson said they were appealing for sponsorship and he was positive that they would lend one after a huge turn-out for last year’s competition.

“Preparations are underway for the tournament. We have not yet found a sponsor, but we are very optimistic that we would make headway in that regard. We had a good turnout last year and we hope to achieve the same this year. Those wishing to participate can contact us for registration at Girls’ College,” Joelson said.

Some of the players expected to take part in the competition are Mufunda, who won last year’s tournament, Rennie Chikunichawa, Prosper Jaya, Prince Ncube, Keletso Malame, Ronald Munzvengwa and Moses Muti.

Shungu Mberengwa, Stephen Chiwanza, Godwell Muhoni, Mike Sibanda and Precious Munhumumwe, who took part in the inaugural tournament last year, are also expected at BAC this year.
