GOKWE — A police officer based at Nembudziya Police Station is in trouble after he allegedly tortured six suspects who had been arrested and detained on allegations of armed robbery.

The officer, Innocent Tichafa Nyafesa (25), whose rank was not given in court, was not asked to plead to charges of assault when he appeared before Gokwe resident magistrate Shepherd Mjanja on Thursday for bail application.
Mjanja granted him $100 bail and remanded the matter to November 1 for continuation of trial.
He also ordered Nyafesa not to interfere with the State witnesses until the case was finalised.
It is understood that on October 15 this year, six men — Gerald Aluyo, Norman Murambatsvina, William Murambatsvina, Johnson Zimbgwa, Maxwell Ngondo and Chenjerai Shoko — were arrested and detained at Nembudziya Police Station on allegations of armed robbery.
At 7pm, Nyafesa allegedly reported for duty and ordered the six to roll on the floor before he removed his belt and used it to flog them all over their bodies.
It is the State case that Aluyo lost a tooth in the process, Norman sustained a loose tooth while the rest sustained body injuries.
