CHINHOYI — Local Government minister Ignatius Chombo has fired three MDC-T councillors, among them Chinhoyi mayor Claudius Nyamhondoro, his deputy Willie Nyambi and Ward 6 councillor Owen Charuza, over allegations of gross mismanagement of council affairs.

Part of the letters (Ref X/4/34) of dismissal signed by Chombo reads: “Following the subsequent institution of investigations, a critical analysis of the reports submitted thereto indicated that there is sufficient evidence gathered against your conduct during the course of your tenure, which points to your being guilty of gross mismanagement of council affairs.”

Nyamhondoro was suspended in July last year for repeatedly defying a ministerial directive over the awarding of the $2,9m emergency sewer rehabilitation tender to Destiny Ventures.

Then acting mayor Dube-Marumahoko conceded to Chombo’s order. He, however, risks Chombo’s wrath after he was recently implicated in a land sale scam that led to his arrest and court appearance this week.

On Tuesday, Chinhoyi magistrate Fanny Nyakudya remanded him to October 23 on $100 bail.
