ZIMBABWEAN golfer Ryan Cairns was yesterday drawn with the South African duo of Andrew Curlewis and Derik Ferreira in the Sun Coast Classic, which tees off this morning at Durban Country Club. Report by Daniel Nhakaniso Sports Reporter
Cairns is one of the three Zimbabweans taking part in the R600 000 54-hole tournament, together with Micky Hough and Dean Schoultz.
For Cairns and Hough, the Sun Coast Classic will be their second tourney in as many weeks after their participation at the BMG Classic last week in Gauteng.
The Sun Coast Classic will give them a chance to restore some pride after a disappointing performance in Gauteng.
Hough finished as the highest placed Zimbabwean, despite a nightmarish final round 10-over par 82 which undid his opening round 67 to finish in a tie for 43rd on the leaderboard.
Cairns failed to make the cut in Gauteng and will be eager to get his season back on track following his two wins early this season.
The 28-year-old golfer will be bidding for his third win in South Africa following his breakthrough win at the Big Easy Tour Observatory and the Vodacom Origins of Golf at Simola Golf Estate in May.
Meanwhile US-based Zimbabwean golfer Brendon De Jonge will join Tiger Woods and a host of other PGA Tour professionals at CIMB Classic which tees off today at the Mines Resort in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
