ABUNDANT Life Christian Centre (ALCC) ruled the roost in the Southern Region Basketball league after they beat Oilers 44-38 at Bulawayo Club for the Disabled (BCD) on Saturday.

Tafadzwa Tigere got 14 points, Honest Nguruve got 13 for ALCC while leading scorer in the men’s league with 100 points, Shadel Noble, grabbed 12 for the losing Oilers. Second-placed Highlanders picked up maximum points as they edged Kings 50-36 on the same day with Jordan Davids getting 24 points while Mike Zvoushe got 13. Zvoushe is the second leading scorer with 91 points. Kings’ Liberty Nyathi and Craig Matenda scored eight points apiece.

Milton Developmental side stayed in the receiving end, as they were thrashed 77-26 by Oilers on Friday on a day that Noble scored 24 points. New side Southern Mavericks continued with their good spell in the league as they beat Giants 61-50 with Lionel Wolfenden notching 16 points while Mavericks’ Garth Hussey scored 19 points for the losing Giants.

In the women’s league, leaders Lakers cruised past Stars 61-22 with Nobukhosi Ndlovu getting 16 points, while Stars’ Brandina Muleya scored 15. Lakers have 10 points from five matches and they are the only team yet to be beaten in the women’s league.

Second-placed Giants, who trail Lakers by three points and have played four games, were also on the rampage on Saturday beating Hawks 84-24 at BCD. Geraldine Chibonda got 29 points while Charmaine Chirinda scored 25 points for Giants. Geraldine Chibonda is leading scorer in the women’s league with 99 points while Charmaine Chirinda follows her with 48 points.
