He was 41.

Garura succumbed to anemia in South Africa yesterday morning and is survived by his wife Farai and two children Mutsa and Karen.

Basketball Union of Zimbabwe president Addison Chiware described Garura’s death as a sad loss to basketball.

“It is with a sad heart that I notify you of the shock passing away of the National Women’s Team Coach Ronald Charles Garura who passed on this morning (yesterday) at a hospital in South Africa. We pray for his family in this difficult moment and grieve with them. May the Lord who surpasses all understanding give his wife and children and the whole Garura family strength and courage in this challenging time,” wrote Chiware.

Burial arrangements are still being finalised as his mother left for South Africa yesterday.

Garura coached all age group national teams and won a number of championships both as a player and coach. At the time of his death, Garura was coaching St John’s College in South Africa.

Garura, who also coached Kingdom Cavaliers and Jewels, coached the women’s basketball team at the recent All Africa Games in Maputo.
