Caps United coach Taurai Mangwiro has been impressed by Zambian striker Jeffrey Kapelwa who has been on trials with the Harare giants and has recommended the player to the team management for signing.

Report by Tawanda Tafirenyika The Zambian forward, who turns out for that country’s premier league outfit Red Arrows, was in Harare for assessment by the Caps United technical team. And, Kapelwa, who also stars for Zambia’s Under-20 team affectionately known in that country as Tupolopolo, has made the grade.

Mangwiro described Kapelwa, who was also part of the Zambia squad that won the Metropolitan Cosafa Under-20 tournament under Keegan Mumba after beating Angola 2-1 last year, as a good striker who could add value to the team and boost their attacking options.

“He is a fantastic player. He is quick and plays with aggression. He is robust and has a strong eye for goal. He has impressed us during trials and we have since recommended him to management,” said Mangwiro.

Mangwiro, however, said the player, who has since returned to Zambia, would only play a part next season as they no longer had any slots to register players for this season.

“We have exhausted our slots for this season and he will only be able to play for us next season,” said Mangwiro.

Meanwhile, the former Monomotapa coach, whose team make the trip to Mandava for a league clash against FC Platinum admitted during a news conference yesterday he had not had luck in Zvishavane as a coach.

“It has not been my favourite hunting ground. The best I have managed there were draws, with most of the encounters ending in defeats. The last time I was there as Monomotapa coach we were beaten 2-0 by Shabanie.

“But we believe there is a first time for everything and am confident we will get a positive result. A draw will be fair, but we are saying with the situation we are in right now, we badly need maximum points. FC Platinum are fancying their chances of a top-four finish, but for us it’s about survival,” said Mangwiro. The Caps gaffer said despite winning their last two matches, they still needed to work hard and predicted a tough encounter in Zvishavane.

“FC Platinum have names in their squad, but we are not going to give special assignment to  anyone because we believe this is about teamwork and we just need to go there and grind out  a result,” he added.

Caps United will, however, be without Washington Pakamisa and Edmore Chapfungamoyo who are nursing injuries.

However, the platinum miners are also buoyed by their last two outings in which they crushed Quelaton 4-0 in a league match, before booting out fancied Harare City from the Mbada Diamonds Cup after thrashing them 3-0.

Tendai Chikuni’s men need to roll up their sleeves to avenge the 3-1 defeat they suffered at the hands of the Harare giants at the National Sports Stadium in the first meeting of the season.
