CHINHOYI — An unidentified man was crushed to death by a Lions’ Den-bound goods train at the 135km peg along the Chinhoyi-Zawi track last week.

Report by Our Own Correspondent Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the incident and urged the public to help police identify the victim.

“We are appealing to the public to help identify a man who was crushed to death by a train last Tuesday night,” said Mabgweazara.

Police said on September 11 at around 10:30pm, a National Railways of Zimbabwe locomotive was travelling from Harare to Lions’ Den driven by Farai Muzenda (45).

On approaching the 135km peg, an unidentified pedestrian is suspected to have tried to cross the railway line and was crushed to death.

“The man was run over by the train and he sustained broken limbs, while his head was crushed,” said Mabgweazara.

Police attended the scene and conveyed the body to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital mortuary.

Meanwhile, a three-year-old Kadoma boy died last Tuesday afternoon when he was knocked down by a speeding kombi as he tried to cross a road. Police identified the deceased as Clever Banda, adding preliminary investigations showed the driver was speeding.
