PM maintenance case postponed

Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s maintenance case, where his ex-lover Locardia Karimatsenga-Tembo is claiming $15 000 per month, has been postponed for hearing to Thursday next week.

Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s maintenance case, where his ex-lover Locardia Karimatsenga-Tembo is claiming $15 000 per month, has been postponed for hearing to Thursday next week.

Report by Charles Laiton Tsvangirai and Karimatsenga’s lawyers yesterday appeared before provincial magistrate Reuben Mukavi and agreed on a postponement after the Premier’s lawyer Advocate Thabani Mpofu cited commitments at the High Court. After the postponement, both counsels confirmed the latest development.

Karimatsenga is represented by Everson Samukange. The maintenance claim against Tsvangirai was filed last week after Karimatsenga was confirmed Tsvangirai’s customary wife by the courts in a week-long court battle.

This was after Karimatsenga thwarted Tsvangirai’s efforts to marry Elizabeth Macheka through a plethora of court applications.

Her objection was upheld by the High Court after the magistrates’ court cancelled the Premier’s marriage licence.

Karimatsenga is reported to have claimed she did not have reservations with Tsvangirai taking a second wife, as long she was recognised as the first wife in terms of customary law.
