National Arts Council Director Elvas Mari will today officially open the eighth edition of the Intwasa Arts Festival at the City Hall car park in Bulawayo.

Report by Sheryleen Masuku Own Correspondent Intwasa arts festival is held in the “City of Kings” annually to celebrate the spring season and this year the event is running under the theme “Blooming”. Director of the festival Raisedon Baya yesterday said various groups will perform at the official opening.

  “Various artists will be performing at the official opening show, including dance groups such as Iyasa, Antivirus, How Mine dance group and gospel a cappella group Family Voices. The groups will perform at Chibuku stage,” said Baya. This year’s Intwasa Arts Festival will host a number of international speakers who will be facilitating workshops across the seven arts genres at the festival.

  “We will have four training workshops beginning tomorrow (today) in the morning, with a workshop for teachers that will run until 4pm at Unlimited Connect Centre.

  “We will also host a number of artists at the Bulawayo Public Library at 10am for an arts management workshop which is supported by the American Embassy. We will have a physical theatre workshop at 2pm at the Bulawayo Public Library which will be followed by a talk on creative industries workshop at 4pm at the National Art Gallery.”

  The festival today presents three plays with the first one titled When Angels Weep being held at Bulawayo Theatre at 2pm.

  Another play titled The Father will take place at 5pm at the Bulawayo Theatre and it will be followed by Tumbuka Dance Company’s Between The Lines at 7.30pm at the same venue. The festival began on Monday and will run until Saturday.
