As the multi-million dollar Mbada Diamonds Cup kicks off, Caps United and Motor Action clash at Trojan Mine in Bindura today in one of the major highlights of the first round.

Report by Henry Mhara There are old scores to be settled between the two clubs after Caps United got three points from the Mighty Bulls last week due to a boardroom decision. Motor Action are still angry over the Zifa Appeals Committee’s decision to award Caps United the three points for the league match which failed to take place at Gwanzura on April 15.

The 2010 league champions, who were the home team, opted to go to Motor Action Sports Club instead of Gwanzura as per the Premier Soccer League’s directive.

Undoubtedly, the Zifa Appeals Committee’s decision has created a “diplomatic row” between the two teams and has made this usually fierce match more fierce.

Motor Action coach Joey Antipas yesterday attempted to play down the bitterness between the two clubs.

“In football there are no grudges. What happened then is over now and we are looking into the future. I expect an intense match though because of the stakes involved. There will be fireworks in Bindura,” said the man who led his team to the final of the same competition last season.

The Mighty Bulls will go into battle without inspirational skipper Marlon Jani and James Jam through injuries.

Caps United’s season has been stuttering and was on the brink of imploding before the team’s last-grasp win over Hardbody on Tuesday. That had come on the back of a 0-0 draw against Buffaloes in Mutare the previous week.

The former Cup Kings would no doubt be looking into those results for inspiration.
