The utility’s western region general manager Lovemore Chinaka told stakeholders attending a Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) breakfast meeting in Bulawayo that clients will not pay for the energy savers.
“Next month, we will be coming to your households to fix energy savers free of charge,” said Chinaka, adding that by May next year Zesa would have completed its installation of pre-paid meters countrywide.
“We are testing four different types of meters that we are getting from four different suppliers.
“If we come and fit a prepayment meter at your station and there is an outstanding debt, our point is that if you can settle that debt once off, we will be happy.
“If you can’t, we will require that you make a credible payment plan for your meter to be registered.
“The aspect on debt being loaded to the meter will be looked at in future once we have developed a software, so that every time you buy, a certain amount of the units will be levied on the debt.

“Initially, we will be doing all the vending of cash power from the vending halls and then with time, we will spread to supermarkets and then later to vendors on street corners.”
Chinaka said cases of vandalism of Zesa properties had gone down in the last two weeks.
“In the last month, we lost 40 transformers and positively we arrested about three culprits associated with that (vandalism),” he said.
“As a result, in the last two weeks there has been a decrease in vandalism.”
