Gunners . . . .  . . . 0 (1) FC Platinum . . . . 0 (3) A four-goal thriller inside the opening 25 minutes was the highlight as FC Platinum inflicted more relegation misery on Gunners when they eased to victory in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Lafarge yesterday.

Report by Michael Madyira Sports Reporter Gunners’ woes were underlined by the frosty relationship between some current and former executive members evidenced by off-field discord.

FC Platinum were thrust ahead by Donald Ngoma just four minutes into play.

Benjamin Marere doubled the visitors’ advantage in the 20th minute, while Michelle Katsvairo struck the third one two minutes later before Valentine Ndaba pulled one back for Gunners in the 24th minute to complete a four-minute three-goal craze.

Gunners remained stuck in the relegation zone on 13th position with 19 points, while the platinum miners rose one place up to position six with 38 points.

The hosts’ coach Moses Chunga could not hide his relegation worries.

“I am now worried about relegation, but we will strategise and try to escape. Maybe the Bambo magic will work. The way we played was not as bad as the score line reads. Our defence was not up to scratch and that gave FC Platinum an early Christmas present,” said Chunga.

From the opposite dugout, Tendai Chikuni felt they deserved to win. “I told the boys that if we are to beat Gunners it has to be in the first half and that worked well. We were coming from the Caps United defeat so it is good that we managed to pick ourselves up and win away from home. We changed the team a bit from the one which we fielded against Caps,” said Chikuni.

True to Chikuni’s words, their early lead sapped Gunners’ confidence.
