Morgan and Tendai Dembo will tonight collaborate with Peter Moyo in a show at F&G Sports Bar in Southerton, Harare.

Report by Entertainment Reporter Talking to NewsDay this week, Willard “Shava” Chirenje, manager of Barura Express, said they had seen it fit to collaborate with Peter since the Dembos can relate to the same situation Peter is currently in. “Peter lost his father last year while Morgan and Tendai lost theirs over 15 years ago and for that reason there is similarity of influences,” said Chirenje.

“Of course they are peers, but I feel the fact that they are orphans is a unifying factor. Peter will feature as a guest artist to revive the memories of ‘Dhewa’ who used to perform Dembo’s hits with Morgan and Tendai.”

Garikai Mbowekera, manager of the F&G, said they were now trying new combinations of performers after recent renovations to the venue.

“We recently installed a new set-up and we are giving the youngsters a chance to prove their worth,” he said.

“We usually engage other bands like Too Open, Transit Crew and Mic Inity since we mainly target mature crowds.”

Peter said he was happy to collaborate with the Dembos.

“There is no better way to start supporting other artists because for me to be where I am, I got support from other artists. For the ordinary man to support us, they need to see us artists supporting one another,” he said.

The Dembo brothers’ popularity has been steadily growing since the release of their debut album earlier this year.

Their biggest platform has been the much-talked about Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s wedding two weeks ago where they performed alongside Peter.

Both groups, Barura Express and Utakataka Express, were in their days formidable forces and in most instances pace setters, but since the demise of their original leaders, things have never been the same.

It remains to be seen whether the young artists will one day stand tall and manage to fill their father’s shoes.
