JOHANNESBURG — Matthew Rusike will have to wait a bit longer before donning the Kaizer Chiefs jersey, if Jomo Sono’s words are anything to go by. Rusike was on Tuesday cleared by the PSL’s Dispute Resolution Chamber to play for Chiefs after a contractual dispute with Jomo Cosmos and he was immediately handed the number 21 jersey by the club.

Report by KickOff However, Sono has informed the Sowetan that he intends to challenge the DRC’s decision and, as a result, Rusike’s future is again in doubt.

“We cannot understand the haste with which they (the PSL) wanted to deal with this issue. Is it because it is Chiefs? They told us on Friday (last week) that the matter would be discussed on Tuesday and we told them our lawyers knew of the later date and were not available,” Sono says.

KickOff.com reported before the player was cleared that the outcome was expected on September 18, hence Sono is crying foul over the “haste” with which the PSL dealt with the matter.

“We are not surprised they did this. Cosmos is not one of the favourites with the PSL and we don’t expect anything from them. We are going to appeal and carry on fighting. These people are taking football back to the days of Abdul Bhamjee. It is a pity,” Sono adds.
