Chihuri likens God to vice-chancellor

Zimbabwe Republic Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri yesterday likened God to a university chancellor, saying God gave instructions to Adam in the Garden of Eden, but Adam failed the exams.

Report by Staff Writer Chihuri said this at the ZRP Staff College at Morris Depot in Harare while officiating at the graduation ceremony of 347 police officers where he warned them to be vigilant and use their training to protect the country’s natural resources.

He said some people in Zimbabwe had “failed examinations” because like the Biblical Adam, they could not follow simple instructions and had a tendency of selling the country’s resources to detractors.

“Those who fail exams will be fired because like Adam in the Garden of Eden, they would have failed to follow instructions,” said Chihuri.

“God was like a university chancellor and he gave instructions to Adam, and we have people who fail to take instructions in this country as they sell out our national heritage and hard-won independence to enemies when these resources are supposed to be for our children,” he said.

The police officers, who were conferred with certificates and diplomas, graduated in various disciplines that included public relations, business management, police studies and adult education, among others.

The studies were done in collaboration with Bindura University of Science Education and the University of Zimbabwe.

Chihuri said 32% of the graduating police officers were females, and this was a great stride by the ZRP towards empowering them in line with the Sadc Gender Protocol, to which Zimbabwe is a signatory.

He also warned the graduates to desist from putting the police force into disrepute through corrupt tendencies, adding there would be zero tolerance to corruption.
