Bulawayo businessman Robert Moyo is facing a $1 500 lawsuit from a local musician for allegedly advertising that the artiste would perform at his night club when he had no such agreement with him.

Report by Richard Muponde Moyo runs Metropolis Bar in Ascot, Bulawayo. The artiste, Mbekezeli Mpofu, whose stage name is PO Zee filed a claim with the Bulawayo magistrates’ courts last Friday demanding $ 1 500 arguing that the businessman had raised money using his name.

“Wherefore, Plaintiff (Mpofu) prays for judgment against the Defendant as follows. Payment of the sum of $1 500 to Plaintiff by the Defendant. Payment of interest on (i) above calculated at the prescribed rate from the 9th August 2012 to date of payment in full and cost of suit,” Mpofu said in his claim. Moyo is alleged to have organised a show on July 28 at his pub dubbed “Metropolis presents Bulawayo’s Finest”.

He flighted posters all over Bulawayo advertising the show indicating the artiste would grace the show.

“The posters purported plaintiff (Mpofu), whose stage name is PO Zee, would also be part of the show, yet in fact there was no agreement to that effect. Defendant exploited plaintiff’s goodwill to its advantage at the expense of the plaintiff,” wrote Zibusiso Ncube, Mpofu’s lawyer.

However, Moyo has since filed a notice of opposition through lawyer Charles Paul Moyo.
