Attempts to issue MDC-T deputy organising secretary Abednicho Bhebhe with a warrant of arrest for a 2009 driving offence were stopped last week after it emerged that he had paid a $240 fine.

Attempts to issue MDC-T deputy organising secretary Abednicho Bhebhe with a warrant of arrest for a 2009 driving offence were stopped last week after it emerged that he had paid a $240 fine.

Report by Staff Reporter The Deputy Registrar of the High Court Albert Mtshingwe on September 11 wrote to the Bulawayo magistrates’ court instructing them to enforce a December 2009 judgment where Bhebhe had been convicted for using a mobile phone while driving.

He was also found guilty on a criminal nuisance charge after he abused police officers who arrested him.

Mtshingwe had indicated that the former Nkayi South MP failed to follow up on an appeal he made to the High Court against both conviction and sentence by a magistrate.

But following the publication of a story indicating Bhebhe’s imminent arrest, it is understood that he sent a relative who produced a January 22, 2010 receipt showing that he had paid the fine.

  The case was subsequently abandoned.
