Alick Macheso has stopped “Doctor Tawanda” from recording his second album without his consent.

Report by Tawanda Marwizi Own Correspondent Botswana-based Doctor Tawanda (real name Tawanda Kasaira) last year compiled an album that featured songs from Macheso’s previous albums.

Yesterday, Macheso said Doctor Tawanda had gone behind his back to produce another album.

“In the first instance, he sought permission, but wanted to do it behind my back this time around and we had to stop him,” said Macheso.

He said he was worried about Doctor Tawanda’s actions, which he described as unacceptable.

“Those tendencies kill our trade as musicians and it encourages laziness. If he was sincere, why did he want to do it behind my back?” quipped a fuming Macheso.

Doctor Tawanda had in his previous album remixed Macheso’s songs that included Shedia and Tafadzwa.

Last Power Music spokesperson Tich Makahamadze yesterday told NewsDay that the two met at the studios recently and agreed that Tawanda should not record his album.

“He agreed in a meeting they held here that he would not release his album. Macheso had not been happy with the move that Tawanda wanted to make,” said Makahamadze.

Contacted for comment Doctor Tawanda downplayed the issue saying he was not aware of it.

“I am not aware of that and I cannot give any comment concerning that because what I only know is that we have agreed on the issue,” he said.

After the release of his previous album, Doctor Tawanda made a name on the local market, but it appears this time around he has hit a snag.

Macheso is known for not tolerating copycats.

In 2005, when he released Vapupuri Pupurai, he made headlines with the song Murondatsimba (copycat) which was taken as a jibe at local artists copying him.
