Report by Jairos Saunyama Own Correspondent The 48-year-old musician, who is well known for the hit songs Idya Banana and Simbabwe, is set to graduate later this year after completing his degree with the Zimbabwe Open University.

Due to his studies, Joseph Garakara went quiet inviting rumours that the musician, who is diabetic, was not feeling well. However, the musician has come out of hibernation with an album that he believes matches his debut album Tapinda  Tapinda which carried the hit song Idya Banana.

“I am back with a new album that I believe matches Tapinda Tapinda and I know that my fans who have been patient enough have something to smile about because this time I am back in full force.

“For the past four years it was difficult for me to deal with both music and books and this forced me to concentrate on my studies. But now that this ‘book war’ is over, I am announcing my presence with this new album which I named Kuti Zvityise,” he said.

Garakara also said his band Mbama Express was still intact.

“My band is still intact, I have all the members I started with. I have already started live shows and I am currently touring Gokwe, Chipinge, Zvishavane, Chiredzi and Nyamapanda,” he said.

Songs on the new album include Musiyei Akadaro, Chindipawo Pie, Unapo, Garai Navo Pasi, I will always be There For You and Ko Sei Uchidaro.

Garakara last released an album in 2010 titled Forever Mine before going into hibernation.

In 2008 he cancelled some of his musical shows after he fell ill.  The primary school teacher rose to stardom in 2006 with the song Idya Banana which saw him win an award.

Garakara started music when he was in Grade 5, taking from his elder brother Lovemore who used to play mbira.
