Hard on the heels of a successful international tour, Afro-fusion group Mokoomba left the country for South Africa, where they are expected to perform tonight.

Group manager Marcus Gora said the six-member outfit had been selected to perform at a Music Conference to be held in Johannesburg.

“The group has been selected for the prestigious showcase at Moshito Otswela Pele Music Conference on Wednesday (tonight) in Newton, Johannesburg, South Africa,” said Gora.

The group had early last week embarked on a fundraising project which resulted in the auctioning of chart topping albums in an effort to tie up some loose ends on the trip.

Each fan who bought a CD got away with a copy autographed by the whole band and a discount for concert entry.

Some artistes expected to grace the event are Fredy Massamba (Congo/Belgium), Maurice Kirya (Uganda), The Brother Moves On (South Africa) and Trance Untes, among other bands.

Since emerging on the music scene in 2001, Mokoomba, who sing mainly in Tonga, have greatly transformed from a mere traditional group into an internationally-acclaimed band.

The 2007 Music Crossroads winners, who hail from Victoria Falls, have performed extensively abroad, with sold-out shows in England, Spain, Holland, Luxemburg, Mozambique, Czech Republic and Belgium, among others.

The band is currently riding high with its latest album titled Rising Tide which is causing waves in Europe.
