The State on Monday declined to prosecute a knife-wielding Bulawayo Zanu PF youth member who allegedly stormed a party meeting held in the city and threatened to stab suspended provincial youth leader Butholezwe Gatsi last Thursday.

Tichaona Chikwana (29) of Mzilikazi suburb was released without charge after the State withdrew the matter before plea.

According to State papers, Chikwana had allegedly stormed the meeting which was being held at Zanu PF Bulawayo provincial offices at Davies Hall and demanded that Gatsi must leave the venue.

Senior party officials then intervened and alerted police after Chikwana allegedly threatened to stab Gatsi if he continued attending the meeting.

A police officer identified as Constable Mudimba conducted a body search and allegedly recovered a double–bladed Okapi knife from his pockets.

It could not readily be established why Chikwana wanted to stab Gatsi.
