JOHANNESBURG — Supersport United scored three goals in the second half to beat 10-man Orlando Pirates 3-0 in their MTN8 second-leg semi-final at Orlando Stadium on Saturday evening. SuperSport United progressed to the final courtesy of a 3-0 aggregate scoreline after the first leg ended goalless.

Pirates striker Benni McCarthy received a second yellow card and was sent off just before the half-time interval as the Buccaneers were left without their talismanic goal-scorer, facing a strong SuperSport outfit in a volatile second period.

United used the extra man to good effect, stretching the Pirates defence after the break. Ashley Hartog scored the opener with a thunderbolt strike in the 62nd minute and Clifford Mulenga killed off the match as a contest 17 minutes later with a cool finish inside the area.

Mabhudi Khenyeza added a third in the 89th minute, slotting the ball into the back of the net to cap off a perfect evening for his team.

Orlando Pirates fans showed their dismay at the team’s home loss by hurling objects, including vuvuzelas, onto the pitch and at stadium security.
