Manchester City’s Zimbabwean midfielder Tinotenda Chibharo believes he is now ready to play for the Warriors if given an opportunity.

The 19-year-old Chibharo is playing for the Manchester City Under-21 team and was recently handed the armband after impressing the technical team.

Yesterday, he spoke to NewsDay Sport, touching on his life as an overseas professional.

The former Prince Edward High School student said it was a great honour for him to be given the skipper’s armband after only a short while at the club.

“I have been here for a short while and to be given the armband is an honour for me. I am really excited with this development. I will repay the coaches for the faith they have shown in me,” said Chibharo who said the appointment was done on a rotational basis. He said he had gained so much since he joined Manchester City.

“I have learnt a lot during my stay here. I have noticed I am developing as a player every day.

“This exposure has helped me a lot in my career and I think I am now ready to play for the national team if I am given the opportunity. That’s the dream of every player,” said Chibharo.

The Warriors are scheduled to play Angola in the 2013 African Cup of Nations qualifier at home on September 9.

Warriors coach Rahman Gumbo needs to assemble a strong team to face the Angolans, as Zimbabwe bids to qualify for the continental soccer showcase for the first time since 2006.

The former Maningi FC project played for the Zimbabwe Under-17 and the Under-20 sides, before moving to the US in 2009 after earning a scholarship at Winthrop University where he studied business administration.

His studies were, however, cut short after Manchester City representatives came knocking on the door after being scouted while playing for Winthrop University.
