DURBAN — Zimbabwean defender Carlington Nyadombo — the best player at AmaZulu last season — says he will be an even better player this season and is looking up to the start of the league this weekend after missing the MTN8 quarter-final clash against Moroka Swallows on Sunday, due to injury.

Nyadombo went away with the Player of the Season and the Player’s Player of the Season at the club awards a fortnight ago in only his second season at the club and now stands as an important player at Usuthu.

AmaZulu kick off their League campaign against Kaizer Chiefs at Moses Mabhida on Saturday evening.

“I am ready to fight for the team this weekend after missing the match against Swallows after I got injured at training last Friday,” said Nyadombo.

“Obviously, with the kind of pre-season that we have had that included playing against Manchester United, my confidence is up. I just want to continue putting into practice all the things that I picked up in that game against Manchester United which includes the importance of keeping possession all the time.

“I will definitely be a far much better player this season because even at training I have been putting into good use all that I picked up from the Man-U guys. I am actually looking forward to having an even better season with the club than last season and my biggest wish is that we also do better than we did last season,” the Zimbabwe Warriors defender added.

The 26-year-old’s absence was evident last Sunday with coach Roger Palmgren even admitting that he missed the steely centre-back, but will be pleased to have him back this weekend for the game against Chiefs.

“Nyadombo is a very important player for us,” said Palmgren.
