A 30-year-old Seke man has been arrested on rape charges after he allegedly sexually violated his 90-year-old grandmother last month.

The accused man from Chakanetsa Village, Seke, pleaded not guilty to the charges when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Sandra Mupindu yesterday who remanded him out of custody to August 16.

He told the court that the complainant, his granny, was his “wife” and he had the right to have sexual intercourse with her.

“She became my wife after she had healed me of an erection problem and I used to buy food for her and this time around I had not been paid at work that’s why she reported me to the police,” he said in his defence.

He sent the courtroom into stitches when he added: “After treating me, she indicated that she wanted to sleep with me to see whether the problem had been solved and indeed I ended up falling in love with her.”

But prosecutor Concellia Maheya told the court that on July 29 around 0100 hours, the man allegedly went to his grandmother’s house where upon arrival he struck down the door and gained entrance.

It is alleged the man, who was wearing a mask in disguise, punched his grandmother twice with fists on the neck and allegedly removed his pants before raping her.

He is alleged to have fallen asleep after the act and she reported the offence to neighbours who then reported the case to the police.

The nonagenarian told the court that she never treated her grandson for his impotence problems.

“I don’t know any traditional herbs or medicines. I am not a traditional healer,” she said.
