A man from Makokoba in Bulawayo allegedly tripped to the ground a woman who was coming from a beer drink, before stealing her underwear and cash.
Matthew Zulu pleaded not guilty to robbery when he briefly appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Shepherd Mjanja yesterday.
He was remanded in custody to August 20 after the State represented by Malvern Nzombe opposed bail.
The alleged incident happened on July 20 at about 10pm in the sprawling suburb when the complainant Sibonile Moyo was walking home from a beer drink.
It is the State case that Zulu tripped Moyo — who was now a few metres away from her home — to the ground and removed her underwear and stole $4 from her.
Zulu allegedly hid the money and the underwear in his pair of trousers.
Fearing that he would rape her, Moyo screamed for help and her husband Billy Dube came to her rescue, prompting Zulu to flee.
She made a police report and investigations led to Zulu’s arrest, but both the underwear and money were not recovered.
