An Alpha Media Holdings (AMH) newspaper vendor based in Bulawayo was struck by a car, which disappeared with the newspapers he was carrying on Friday morning.

The incident happened about 6.30am at the intersection of Fort Street and 11th Avenue in the city centre but the vendor, Tinashe Chidende, suffered minor injuries.

He said 100 copies each of NewsDay and The Zimbabwean disappeared with the car.

AMH are the publishers of NewsDay, The Standard and Zimbabwe Independent.

However, Chidende said several witnesses managed to record the registration number of the speeding vehicle, a Toyota Camry, numberplate ACJ 3081.

Efforts to get a comment from acting Bulawayo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Bekimpilo Ndlovu yesterday were fruitless as he was not in the office at the time of going to press.
