Alick Macheso gave a sterling performance on Friday at his homecoming show at New Life Night Club in Budiriro.

The show was his first in Harare after his return from the United Kingdom where he shared the stage with Oliver Mtukudzi last month.

Macheso came on the stage to a packed club that got excited at his appearance. The ecstasy seemed to overflow with numerous fans congesting the stage area, making it virtually impassable.

It was a tough time for the stage security as they tried to contend with fans who flocked to the backstage to get photographs taken with Macheso, while others stampeded to show off their dancing skills.

It was, however, Macheso’s modified frontline that won the hearts of most fans as they rocked fans with a continuously energetic act.

New kid on the block Forward Antonio thrilled fans as he gelled well with other dancers and looked set to fit well into the fired Peter Kagomera shoes.

Macheso also took time to re-introduce Elton Muropa, who had defected to Sulumani Chimbetu’s Orchestra Dendera Kings together with Noel Nyazanda and Francis Dhaka aka Franco Slomo. “Varikuenda vese vachidzoka. Itori Pengaudzoke chaiyo (They left and they are coming back proving to be prodigal sons),” said Macheso to a thunderous applause.

Jethro Machanja, Macheso’s assistant manager, said they were impressed by the homecoming show.

“The reception has been overwhelming since our return from UK and we are grateful to our fans for embracing us this much,” said Machanja.
