MASVINGO-Two people died on the spot on Wednesday evening after a Masvingo-bound vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road and overturned twice before landing on its roof.
Acting Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nkululeko Nduna said the accident occurred at around 5pm at the 286-kilometre peg along the Masvingo-Mutare Highway.
“The driver, Tawanda Utete, was driving a Toyota Noah heading towards Masvingo with 14 passengers aboard. Upon approaching the 286-kilometre peg, he lost control of the car and it veered off the road before landing on its roof.
“Two people died on the spot while 12 others were injured, of which some are in a critical and stable condition.
“The injured were rushed to Masvingo General Hospital where they are admitted,” said Nduna.
He said the names of the deceased would be released after their next of kin have been informed.
