The South Western District Show opened yesterday with over 65 exhibitors putting up their stands in Gwanda, the Matabeleland South provincial capital.

Organisers said more exhibitors were still signing up for the show that will be officially opened by Industry and Commerce minister Welshman Ncube tomorrow.

In an interview, South Western District Show Society president Misheck Ndlovu said the opening day was a “roaring success”.

“As it stands, we have never, on the first day, had so many exhibitors fully manning their stands,” he said. “It is so packed on the first day and I can safely say our first day is like the second day last year. Exhibitors are still coming through and we can’t stop them. They are coming from all over Matabeleland South and some are from Bulawayo and Harare.” The 55th edition of the show is running under the theme: “Shifting from Relief to Sustainable Development.”
