The Dynamos board of directors pressured the club’s executive to register veteran midfielder Desmond Maringwa with the PSL late on Tuesday.

According to sources, the club’s executive wanted to register a striker for that slot, but pressure from the board which wields a lot of power in the running of the team forced the executive to register Maringwa.

“The coaches had recommended strikers like Obadiah Tarumbwa and Evans Gwekwerere. They said they wanted to beef up the strike force, but there was a lot of pressure from the board of directors. They insisted Maringwa should be registered. The executive was against this. They wanted a striker to fill the void left by Takesure Chinyama. You know there is a lot of politics at Dynamos,” said the source.

Dynamos had already filled three of their mid-season slots after registering Zambian Arthur Kaseloki, Cliff Sekete and goalkeeper Manfred Mulingani and had been left with one slot for a striker.

The 34-year-old Maringwa is one of the most loyal players at Dynamos and has not played for any other team since graduating from the juniors.

There was an outcry after the midfielder was left out of the squad at the beginning of the season. But Maringwa, who has been training to keep himself in shape, could provide stability in the Dynamos midfield department with his experience.

Maringwa was part of the Dynamos squad that reached the final of the Caf Champions League in 1998, before his promising career was hampered by an injury sustained while training with the Warriors.
