Dynamos have signed former Highlanders striker Obadiah Tarumbwa as a direct replacement for Takesure Chinyama, who has joined South African Premiership football side Orlando Pirates.

Tarumbwa was a free agent and the Zimbabwean champions who had been also targeting Monomotapa striker Kuda Musharu and unsettled Evans Gwekwerere swooped on the striker just before the transfer window deadline.

Tarumbwa has been playing his football in Cyprus turning out for Apop Kinyras. He joined the club in the 2009-2010 season.

He made 20 appearances and scored five goals. The former Warriors player, 26, also turned out for Cercle Brugge in Belgium together with Honour Gombami and Vusa Nyoni before returning home to join Bantu Rovers.

Meanwhile, Dynamos got a big pay cheque on Tuesday after Orlando Pirates made a bank transfer of $75 000 into their account for Chinyama’s move.

The Harare giants had demanded a transfer fee of between $120 000 and $150 000 for the striker but they were forced to back down with Pirates insisting the asking price was too high for the 29-year-old.

Information obtained by NewsDay Sport from an informed source shows that the two parties finally agreed on a transfer fee of $75 000.

On Sunday, Dynamos had their coffers boosted after they took home $79 511 from a gross record $135 000 in the Harare derby against bitter rivals Caps United.

But the Glamour Boys are likely to be left with an estimated $60 000 from the Chinyama transfer deal after deductions of the 10% stipulated fee for the player and another 10% that goes to the player’s agent.

If you factor in that DeMbare also paid $15 000 as the signing-on fee to Chinyama after his return from Poland, it would mean they made a profit of $45 000 — a good return for a club that relies only on gate-takings. Chinyama, who has already joined his new club for pre-season training, jetted into the country on Tuesday soon after the transaction. He is in Harare to sort out his work permit documents ahead of the start of the South African season. Club-by-club list of transfer window signings
