Harare Province put up a commendable performance at the National Association of Secondary Heads (NASH) Under-17 Inter-provincial basketball tournament after winning both girls’ and boys’ categories in Mutare over the weekend.

Powered by Zimbabwe under-17 utility player Patrick Nhamburo and captain Tinotenda Charara, the boys’ team bulldozed their way into the finals against Mashonaland East without conceding defeat.

In the last four, Harare boys’ team clobbered the hosts Manicaland 36-13 and in the final they beat Mashonaland East 34 -15.

In the girls’ category, Harare beat Manicaland 37-17 in the last four, before making light work of Mashonaland East 52-23 in the final.

Harare basketball head coach Costa Muperi said experience was their major strength at the tournament.

“We played very well since at the start of this tournament and I’m very happy with the performance of my players. I think we had more experienced players than our counterparts.”

NASH national basketball head in charge Thompson Katanda said this year’s competition was very high.

“Competition was high at this year tournament and we have also selected teams which are going to represent the country at the Confederation of Southern African of Sports Association to run from August 28 to September 4 in Namibia this year,” he said.
