A 61 year-old war veteran from Beatrice was last week ordered by the court to vacate a farm he illegally occupied in 2003.

Jephany Tafirenyika Mwaluza was ordered to vacate from Lanark Farm in Beatrice within 90 days.

Mwaluza appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa, who also ordered him to pay a fine of $50 for unlawfully occupying the farm which he claimed belonged to him.

The war veteran unlawfully occupied the farm after it was gazetted on November 7 2003 by the government.

It was the State case that complainant Shungu Machingura (37) bought the farm with the knowledge of the government and was given an offer letter, reference LLRR 704 on November 21 2003, indicating that she was the rightful owner.

Mwaluza allegedly does not have any offer letter, but is said to have continued to stay at the farm until 2011.

It was alleged that Mwaluza bragged about being a war veteran and that he was a successful commercial farmer.
