Dendera musician Sulumani Chimbetu put up a memorable three-hour boat cruise show in Kariba over the weekend, which left his legions of fans demanding for more.

During the show, which was the first of its kind, Sulu, as he is affectionately known by his fans, belted some of his late father’s yesteryear hits as the boat slowly glided back to the shores.

Dendera fans who spoke to NewsDay said they were looking forward to similar shows from the country’s different musicians.

“We have a lot of musicians in the country and we encourage them to come and perform here on the boat. We only heard of this in South Africa, as if we don’t have lakes here. They must do what Sulu has done,” said a fan, who only identified herself as Miriam.

Sulumani said he was humbled by the response he got from the fans that graced the boat cruise show. “I am so humbled by the way fans enjoyed the boat cruise. It is so encouraging and I wish my fellow artists would come and do the same, so that we can prove that we can do that as Zimbabweans,” said Sulumani.

Show promoter Alois Chimbangu said: “We are in the process of inviting as many musicians as we can so that we can prove the ability of Kariba as a tourist destination with all facilities I am happy that the people travelled from as far as Harare and Masvingo for this boat cruise show.”
