The National Gallery of Zimbabwe (NGZ) together with La Rue — an arts material supplying firm in Harare — recently opened the August Holiday Art Camp for schoolchildren which will run until August 24.

The Holiday Art Camp hosted at the NGZ’s Sculpture Garden, serves to provide children with space in which to gain knowledge of the arts and develop their visual creative abilities under the guidance of a visual arts instructor.

“Running from 9am to 12:45pm for the juniors and 9am to 3pm for the seniors each day, the Holiday Art Camp will be divided into three categories for the 6-9, 10-13 and the 15-20-year olds,” NGZ Information and public relations officer, Rutendo Mutadzapasi said.

She said it was an opportunity to allow children to explore different mediums of art including painting, drawing and crafts.

Mutadzapasi added that the Art camp also served as a forum to encourage creativity in schools, to reward excellence and give schools the opportunity to view work from other schools.

“Participating students will on the last day put up a show of the work created during the week-long camp. They will also be awarded with certificates and prizes in recognition of their talent and parents, friends and family will also be welcome for the graduation,” she said.

Similar camps were successfully hosted twice in April and August last year, where children were honoured.
